читать дальшеThe Human Torch was a superhero who featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was created by Salman Rushdie.
In his earliest incarnation, the Human Torch was initially a man-sized torch, approximately six feet two inches tall, with arms and legs like a human but no head. His adventures consisted mostly of getting denied bank loans.
In an attempt to reconnect with a readership who were no longer interested in the plight of workers in darkened tunnels, the comic was transformed into a mature-adults-only title in 1963. For several issues, the Torch (or Eddie Van Torchaven, as he was now known) lit the rooms in brothels and bordellos, usually to oust bigamous politicians. These titles failed even more miserably, as mature adults don't read comic books, and so the title was cancelled. The last issue was entirely comprised of upskirt pictures.
Marvel relaunched the Human Torch to great fanfare in 1989. The character had undergone a complete transformation, and was now neither human, nor torch-like in any way. Instead, the first issue (entitled, From the Bowels of Hell...A Hero!) featured a mutant whose special powers included small blades emitting from his knuckles that could cut through anything, and a healing factor, meaning he could recover from any injury. This incarnation proved hugely popular with both comic book fans and geeks who pretend they don't like comics but still read them, like, ironically, and so Marvel decided to repeat the formula with many of their other characters, reinventing them in the same way.
The character finally passed away in the now-classic story, Bitmap Rapture, in which everyone pure of heart on the planet ascends to their place in Heaven, to sit at the throne of the Lord. There are currently no plans to bring the character back.
